DSP Index

DSP Index Methodology & Data Sources

Transparent methodology behind the DSP China Steel Price Index, FOB estimation and CBAM carbon data.

Index Compilation Method

The DSP Index uses a fixed basket method. Each category (building, plate, profile) tracks a predefined set of core products. The category index = (target day average price / base day average price) × 1000. The composite index is the weighted average of category indices.

Weighted Methodology

Product weight = 40% equal-weight base + 30% price volatility normalized + 30% expert adjustment coefficient. The DSP index uses mixed weighting to combine market activity and industry representation, ensuring the index reflects overall market trends. Weights are locked to a base period and are not recalculated for historical data.

Basket Selection Criteria

Inclusion: active for more than 45 days in the past 60 trading days with continuous reporting in the most recent 30 days. Removal: missing for more than 7 consecutive trading days.

FOB Estimation Model

FOB estimate = (ex-tax price - tax refund) / exchange rate + domestic cost, where tax refund = ex-tax price × [refund rate / (1 + VAT rate)]. Domestic cost (inland haulage + port charges) is estimated at ¥80/ton (range 60-110).

CBAM Data Sources

Dual-source: EU official default values (DG TAXUD, OJ L 202502621) and China official factors (Ministry of Ecology and Environment, data.ncsc.org.cn). Carbon tax = factor × (1 + surcharge) × carbon price × quantity. Surcharges: 10% (2026), 20% (2027), 30% (2028+).
